Fushimi Inari Shrine

Fushimi Inari Taisha is a shrine that is very popular with foreigners in Kyoto.

You can see many statues of foxes, the messengers of the god of the shrine.
On the approach to the shrine, there is a tunnel of vermillion-lacquered torii.

Another reason for its popularity is its convenient access. If you go by train, you can get off at Inari Station on the JR Nara Line and walk east for about 5 minutes from Fushimi Inari Station on the Keihin Main Line, or you can get off at Inari Taisha-mae on the Minami 5 bus route and walk east for 7 minutes. This convenience is a big plus for tourists.

This shrine, which has a long history of 1300 years, has a very large precinct, and the entire mountain is an object of worship. It is about 233 meters above sea level, about 4 kilometers around, and takes about 2 hours to walk around. Inariyama is said to be the place where Sei Shonagon, the author of the famous book “Makura no Soshi”, also visited. If you have the time and energy, why not try walking around? The view from the top is wonderful.
